Birhingham - English Premier League struggler Aston
Villa has finally made a big-name signing - in the
boardroom.
Villa said on Thursday that Mervyn King, the Bank of
England governor from 2003-13, has joined the club's
board of directors. The 67-year-old King is a lifelong
Villa fan.
Villa chairman Steve Hollis said King "successfully
steered the Bank of England through the most
turbulent economic headwinds in living memory. His
appointment to the board is a huge boost as we plan
our path back to more successful times."
Villa is in last place in the Premier League, 10 points
from safety with 14 games remaining. Despite its
position, Villa didn't sign a player in Europe's winter
transfer window.
