The British singer's full live performance of "When We
Were Young" premiered Tuesday. Paul Dugdale directed
the video, which was taped at The Church Studios in
London, where some of the tracks for her third album,
25, were recorded. Adele co-wrote the song with Tobias
Jesso Jr. Adele teased the performance Monday in a
promo for her upcoming interview with Australia's 60
Minutes.
Speaking to SiriusXM Monday, Adele said the song was
about attending a house party when you were older and
"seeing everyone that you've ever fallen out with,
everyone that you've ever loved, everyone that you've
never loved, and stuff like that. And where you can't
find the time to be in each other lives and you're all
thrown together at this party when you're like 50, and it
doesn't matter and you have so much fun and you feel
like you're 15 again. So, that's the kind of vibe of it,
really. The lyric is like, 'Let me photograph you now /
Let me photograph you in the light in case this is the
last time.' My favorite lyric in it is, 'You look like a
movie, you sound like a song / My god this reminds me
of when we were young.'"
"When We Were Young" is the follow-up to Adele's long-
awaited, well-received comeback single "Hello." The
music video garnered 50 million views in its first 48
hours alone, and it also broke Vevo's 24-hour record
with 27.7 million views in one day. "Hello" debuted at
No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and set a record for the
most U.S. downloads sold in a week with 1.11 million.
Adele's third studio album, 25, is in theaters Friday.
To promote her new music, the singer is scheduled to
tape a performance at Radio City Music Hall in New
York City tonight for Adele Live in New York City, airing
Dec. 14 at 10 p.m. She will also sing on NBC's
Saturday Night Live on Nov. 21, The Tonight Show
Starring Jimmy Fallon on Nov. 23, and on Nov.
25.
