Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh has
praised midfielder Paul Onobi for his composed
display in the 2-0 2018 World Cup qualifying win over
Swaziland on Tuesday.
Onobi was a surprise starteR for the Super Eagles at
the Adokiye Amasiemaka Stadium in Port Harcourt on
Tuesday, but put up an impressive showing to help
the former African champion’s progress to the group
stages of the qualifiers, and Oliseh cannot stop
singing his praise.
"I like him, he's very talented and he showed it in the
game," Oliseh, himself a midfielder during his playing
days said of Onobi.
"He started because he showed us he can do it and I
am very happy for him. He has a lot of hunger and it
showed in the way he played," Oliseh said.
As if the Sunshine Stars' midfielder's start wasn't
enough, he had to start ahead of the more revered
and celebrated John Obi Mikel of Chelsea, but Oliseh
says he didn’t start ahead of Mikel.
"We selected the team based on what we thought
would give us the best result. He didn't start ahead
of Mikel or anybody because like I said when I took
this job, nobody has a permanent place on the team
whether you're home based or based abroad," he
said.
